The Odonata group together two sub-orders:
Dragonflies ( anisoptera ) are a suborder of Odonate insects . They are characterized by large, highly developed compound eyes usually joined above the head and an elongated body. The fore and hind wings are different in shape and at rest, remain in a position perpendicular to the body.
These are very interesting subjects in macro photography because they lend themselves readily to posing!
